By train
The journey with the Rhaetian Railway from Chur via Tiefencastel into the Engadin ranks among Europe’s most picturesque and engineering marvels, with its spiral tunnels and dizzying viaducts.
Alternatively, you can travel from Landquart via Klosters and the Vereina Tunnel into the Engadine. The route takes about 3½ hours from Zurich Main Station to Sils Maria.
Timetables, tickets, and further information on train travel in Switzerland are available at www.sbb.ch.
By car
You can easily reach the Engadine by car from any part of Switzerland or from Italy, Germany or Austria:
- Zurich - Sils Maria: 200 km, 3 hours
- Milan - Sils Maria: 165 km, 3 hours
- Munich - Sils Maria: 290 km, 4 hours
- Basel - Sils Maria: 250 km, 4 hours
In heavy snowfall, crossing the mountain passes is only permitted with snow chains or 4x4 vehicles. In winter, we recommend that you check the current road conditions. Using the car transport service through the Vereina Tunnel from Klosters to the Lower Engadin is particularly advisable.
